Fruits vs. pills: new study tests natural acid control for kidney patients

NCT ID NCT05113641

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study explores whether eating more fruits and vegetables can safely manage metabolic acidosis, a common complication of chronic kidney disease. The usual treatment, sodium bicarbonate, often causes side effects and may not work well. Researchers are testing if home-delivered produce can be a practical alternative for 37 adults with moderate-to-severe kidney disease.
