Scientists probe Sugar's hidden path: does obesity break a natural liver shield?
NCT ID NCT07209202
Summary
This research study aims to understand how the body processes fructose, a common sugar, and whether this process works differently in people with obesity. Researchers will test if the small intestine's ability to convert fructose into a safer form of sugar helps protect the liver, and if this protection is weaker in individuals with obesity. The study involves 40 participants, both lean and with obesity, who will undergo several sugar tolerance tests and provide blood samples to measure how their bodies handle fructose.
