Can a simple steroid shot ease frozen shoulder pain?
NCT ID NCT06626568
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether steroid injections given every two weeks can improve shoulder function and reduce pain in people with frozen shoulder. Forty adults received either an ultrasound-guided injection into the shoulder or a shot in the buttock, plus a placebo. The goal was to see if the longer interval between doses works and to plan a larger future trial.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
betamethasone (a steroid)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that spacing out steroid injections every two weeks is just as effective for frozen shoulder, making treatment more convenient.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The study is mainly designed to plan a larger trial, not to prove effectiveness.
