Real-Time tissue check during rectal cancer surgery may lower recurrence risk
NCT ID NCT07398716
First seen Feb 12, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study tested whether checking the removed tissue during surgery (called frozen section) helps ensure all cancer is removed in people with mid or low rectal cancer who had radiation first. About 99 adults took part. Half had the extra tissue check during surgery, and half had standard surgery. The goal was to see if the frozen section group had fewer positive margins and less cancer coming back.
