Instant cancer check during surgery aims to cut recurrence risk
NCT ID NCT07398716
Summary
This study tested if a quick tissue analysis during surgery helps surgeons get cleaner margins when removing rectal cancer. 99 patients who had radiation before surgery were split into two groups: one had their tumor's outer edge checked instantly during the operation, while the other had standard surgery. Researchers compared the two groups to see if the instant check led to safer removal and fewer cancer returns.
