Freeze your pain away? new procedure aims to stop rib fracture pain for months

NCT ID NCT06069154

Summary

This study is testing a procedure called cryoneurolysis, which uses extreme cold to temporarily freeze nerves, to see if it can provide months of pain relief for people with broken ribs. The goal is to offer a single, non-addictive treatment that could reduce the need for opioid painkillers and help prevent serious lung complications. Researchers are comparing this freezing procedure to standard pain blocks in 120 participants across several hospitals.
