Thigh muscle scan may predict frailty in elderly ICU patients

NCT ID NCT07310667

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study looks at whether measuring the thickness of a thigh muscle with ultrasound can help assess frailty and nutrition risk in critically ill patients aged 65 and older. Researchers will take ultrasound measurements within 24 hours of ICU admission and again on days 3 and 7, and compare them with standard frailty and nutrition scores. The goal is to find a quick, safe, bedside method to identify high-risk patients early.
