First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a 12-session program called Forging Hopeful Futures, designed to reduce violence among teens ages 13-19. The program uses group discussions and activities to help youth understand how racism, gender inequality, and economic injustice can lead to violence, and teaches non-violent conflict resolution and leadership skills. Researchers will enroll 720 teens from participating neighborhoods and schools, and track changes in violent behavior over 3 and 6 months.

What this could lead to
If it works, this program could offer a proven way to reduce violence and promote healthier relationships among teens in underserved communities.
What could go wrong
This is a single study with no blinding, and results rely on self-reported behavior, which may not be fully accurate. The program is also intensive (36 hours over 6-12 weeks), which may limit real-world adoption.
