Robotic surgery gets a sense of touch: can it make prostate cancer operations safer?
NCT ID NCT07247175
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new feature on the da Vinci 5 surgical robot that gives surgeons a sense of touch during prostate cancer surgery. 60 patients will take part, with surgeons randomly using the force feedback on or off. The goal is to see if this helps surgeons learn faster and reduces tissue damage.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
da Vinci 5 robotic system with force feedback
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that force feedback makes robotic surgery safer and easier to learn, potentially improving outcomes for prostate cancer patients.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study with only 60 patients at one center. The benefits seen may not apply to all surgeons or hospitals, and the force feedback may not significantly improve safety or learning.
