Flat feet fix may shift kneecap alignment, small study hints
NCT ID NCT07678840
First seen Jul 01, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether correcting a flat foot position with shoe inserts (orthoses) changes how the kneecap sits during standing. Ten adults with flexible flatfoot will have weight-bearing CT scans with and without orthoses, with knees straight and slightly bent. The goal is to see if foot correction reduces kneecap tilt or shift, but the study does not test pain relief—only immediate mechanical effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Foot orthoses (shoe inserts)
What this could lead to
If foot correction changes kneecap alignment, it could point toward a mechanical explanation for knee pain in people with flat feet.
What could go wrong
This is a very small proof-of-concept study (10 people) looking only at immediate mechanical effects, not pain or long-term outcomes. Results may not apply to everyone.
