Free groceries for diabetes: does a Food-as-Medicine program beat standard care?
NCT ID NCT07529184
First seen May 08, 2026 ยท Last updated May 08, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether giving free, healthy food boxes to adults with type 2 diabetes in low-income areas helps lower blood sugar more than standard care. Over 400 people in Stockton, CA, received family-sized boxes with fresh produce and pantry staples every two weeks for six months, plus nutrition education. Researchers measured A1C levels, food security, and diabetes self-management to see if the program made a real difference.
