Can fortified salt stop birth defects?

NCT ID NCT06734611

Summary

This study is testing whether adding folic acid to regular cooking salt can effectively raise folate levels in the blood of women in Zambia. The goal is to see if this simple, everyday change could help prevent serious birth defects of the brain and spine in future pregnancies. About 250 women will use the special salt for six months and have their blood tested to measure the results.
