Sound waves target breast tumors before removal

NCT ID NCT01827969

Summary

This study aimed to test whether focused ultrasound could effectively destroy breast tumors before surgical removal. Women scheduled for mastectomy would receive the ultrasound treatment under sedation, then have surgery 48 hours later. Researchers planned to examine the removed tissue to see how completely the ultrasound destroyed the tumor cells.
