Foam-in-a-Belly: new emergency treatment fights to save bleeding trauma patients

NCT ID NCT02880163

Summary

This study is testing a new medical foam designed to quickly stop life-threatening internal bleeding in the abdomen after serious injuries like car crashes or shootings. The foam is injected and expands inside the body to put pressure on bleeding wounds, buying time for patients to get to emergency surgery. Researchers are looking at how well it works to stabilize blood pressure and whether it is safe for patients who are in severe shock from blood loss.
