Brain zaps and therapy: new combo tackles depression
NCT ID NCT03289923
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 27 times
Summary
This study tested a new way to treat depression by combining two therapies: repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), which uses magnetic pulses to stimulate the brain, and cognitive therapy, a type of talk therapy. The goal was to see if using brain scans to guide the stimulation made it more effective. Thirty-two adults with major depression took part in daily sessions over six weeks, and researchers tracked changes in their symptoms and brain activity.
