Antidepressant repurposed in fight against brain cancer

NCT ID NCT05634707

Summary

This early-stage study is testing if a common antidepressant drug, fluoxetine (Prozac), can make a standard chemotherapy drug (temozolomide) more effective at killing recurrent brain tumor cells. The researchers want to see if fluoxetine causes stress inside cancer cells, making them more vulnerable. A small group of adults with a returning brain tumor (glioma) who are scheduled for surgery will take the drugs for a short period before their operation so the tumor tissue can be analyzed.
