New Fluid-Guiding tech tested in prostate surgery to prevent complications
NCT ID NCT07669337
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 08, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study compares standard fluid management to a newer method using the Plethysmography Variability Index (PVI) during prostate surgery for enlarged prostate. The goal is to see if PVI-guided care reduces risks like fluid overload or low blood pressure. Fifty-eight men aged 50-80 will be randomly assigned to one of the two approaches.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Plethysmography Variability Index (PVI)-guided goal-directed fluid management
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to a safer, more precise way to manage fluids during prostate surgery, reducing complications like fluid overload or low blood pressure.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 58 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The technique may not show clear benefits over standard care.
