Neck vein breathing test may cut surgery risks

NCT ID NCT07041021

First seen Apr 19, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tests a new way to manage fluids during abdominal surgery. Doctors will use breathing-related changes in a neck vein (internal jugular vein) to decide how much fluid to give. 84 adults having abdominal surgery will be split into two groups: one gets standard fluid care, the other gets fluid guided by the neck vein. The goal is to see if this approach lowers complications like infections, heart issues, or kidney problems after surgery.
