First seen May 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tests whether giving smokers access to multiple e-cigarette flavors (like menthol, mint, or fruit) helps them stop smoking regular cigarettes. About 1,280 adult smokers will use a provided e-cigarette device for 13 weeks, with some getting only tobacco flavor and others getting a choice of flavors. The main goal is to see who stays away from cigarettes in the final week.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) with various e-liquid flavors
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that offering a variety of flavors in e-cigarettes helps more smokers switch away from combustible cigarettes.
What could go wrong
This is a behavioral study, not a test of a new drug. Results may not apply to all smokers, and long-term health effects of e-cigarettes are still unknown.
