New flap technique may better seal sinus holes after tooth pulls

NCT ID NCT07630701

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested two ways to close a small hole (3-6 mm) that can form between the mouth and sinus after removing upper back teeth. 24 adults were randomly assigned to get either the new inverted flap or the standard flap surgery. The main goal was to see which method more reliably seals the hole, prevents fluid or air from leaking into the nose, and reduces pain and swelling. Patients were followed for 45 days after surgery.
