Fiber pills tested to shield cancer patients from lasting radiation damage

NCT ID NCT04534075

Summary

This study tested whether taking extra dietary fiber during pelvic radiation therapy for cancer could protect long-term bowel health and reduce inflammation. Over 350 patients were randomly assigned to take either fiber capsules or placebo pills, in addition to following a high-fiber diet. The goal was to see if fiber could ease severe, lasting bowel symptoms that often follow this type of cancer treatment.
