Fetal surgery registry aims to boost survival in babies with severe diaphragm defect

NCT ID NCT07166172

First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study follows 80 pregnant women whose babies have a severe form of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), a hole in the diaphragm that lets organs move into the chest and harms lung growth. Half will receive a fetal surgery called FETO, which temporarily blocks the windpipe to help the lungs expand, while the other half gets standard care. Researchers will track survival to discharge and health up to 24 months old to see if FETO improves outcomes.
