New study aims to catch fetal infection before birth

NCT ID NCT07211503

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study will measure two substances (IL-6 and lactate) in the blood of mothers and their newborns to see if they can signal infection or inflammation in the baby before birth. Researchers will compare 160 full-term pregnant women whose fetal heart rate patterns suggest possible infection with those whose patterns are normal. The goal is to find a way to identify at-risk babies earlier, so they can get faster treatment and have better health outcomes.
