New feeding method tested to shield fragile preemie lungs

NCT ID NCT03646045

Summary

This study is testing if placing a feeding tube past the stomach (transpyloric feeding) can prevent stomach fluid from accidentally entering the lungs of premature babies who need breathing machine support. Researchers are measuring markers of lung irritation and breathing support needs in about 46 very small, premature infants. The goal is to see if this feeding method can help prevent lung complications.
