Could skipping the Pre-Surgery fast reduce pneumonia risk?
NCT ID NCT07508293
Summary
This study observed 91 critically ill patients in the ICU who needed a breathing tube placed in their neck (tracheostomy). It compared two common practices: continuing tube feeding right up to the procedure versus stopping food 6-8 hours before. The main goal was to see if one approach was better at preventing pneumonia caused by food or fluid accidentally entering the lungs shortly after the procedure.
