Poop transplant trial aims to tame debilitating Liver-Related brain fog

NCT ID NCT07454408

Summary

This study is testing whether transplanting gut bacteria from healthy donors can help patients who keep getting severe brain fog after a specific liver surgery (TIPS), even while taking standard medications. Forty patients who have had at least two episodes of this brain fog will be randomly assigned to receive either the real fecal transplant treatment or a placebo, in addition to their usual drugs. The goal is to see if changing the gut bacteria is safe and can reduce how often the brain fog comes back.
