Study tests biofeedback vs. injections for bowel control

NCT ID NCT03811821

Summary

This study compares two treatments for adults with severe fecal incontinence (bowel leakage). First, all participants try a 4-week program of education, diet changes, and exercises. If that doesn't help enough, they are randomly assigned to receive either biofeedback training (to strengthen pelvic muscles) or injections of a bulking gel into the rectum. The goal is to see which treatment is more effective, safer, and more cost-effective at reducing leakage episodes over two years.
