New rule could keep more kids with cancer out of the hospital

NCT ID NCT04938206

Summary

This study tested a decision-making tool to identify children with cancer who have a low risk of severe infection when they develop fever and low white blood cell counts (febrile neutropenia). The goal was to see if using this rule could safely allow more children to be treated at home instead of being automatically admitted to the hospital. Researchers measured if this approach improved the children's quality of life by reducing unnecessary hospital stays.
