Longer fasting before scopes may cut aspiration danger for GLP-1 users

NCT ID NCT07006142

First seen Feb 03, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a longer fasting period before an upper endoscopy can lower the risk of food or liquid entering the lungs (aspiration) in people taking GLP-1 receptor agonists like Ozempic or Wegovy. About 150 adults having a planned upper endoscopy will follow a modified fasting schedule. Researchers will check how many still have stomach contents during the procedure and whether anyone develops aspiration within 72 hours.
