Rapid test aims to beat slow germ cultures in ICU
NCT ID NCT03711331
Summary
This study tested if using a faster diagnostic machine (Unyvero®) could help doctors choose the correct, targeted antibiotic for pneumonia patients in the ICU more quickly. Currently, doctors often have to wait days for lab results, leading to initial treatment with broad-spectrum antibiotics. The trial compared this faster testing strategy to standard care in 161 adult ICU patients on ventilators with suspected pneumonia.
