Rapid test aims to curb unnecessary antibiotics in critically ill pneumonia patients

NCT ID NCT03763799

Summary

This study tested whether using a rapid diagnostic test (Unyvero®) could help doctors stop unnecessary antibiotic treatment sooner in patients with suspected pneumonia who are on a breathing machine. The goal was to reduce the overuse of broad-spectrum antibiotics, which can lead to side effects and antibiotic resistance. Researchers compared the rapid test results to standard, slower lab methods in 266 critically ill patients.
