New 1-Hour test aims to speed up diagnosis of dangerous brain infections

NCT ID NCT06720519

Summary

This study tested a new diagnostic panel called QIAstat-Dx to see if it could identify the germs causing serious brain and spinal cord infections (like meningitis) faster than current standard tests. Researchers analyzed 170 previously collected spinal fluid samples that were known to contain viruses or bacteria. The goal was to see if this new one-hour test was as accurate as older methods that take hours or days, and if it could also give doctors an estimate of how much virus was present.
