Nerve blocks may cut ventilator time after heart surgery
NCT ID NCT07475884
First seen Mar 23, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 7 times
Summary
This study looked at whether special nerve blocks (fascial plane blocks) can improve recovery after open-heart surgery. The blocks aim to control pain better than standard painkillers, which may help patients breathe on their own sooner and leave the intensive care unit faster. The trial included 206 adults having planned heart surgery through the breastbone.
