Family by their side: new approach may prevent post-surgery delirium in kids

NCT ID NCT06092671

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study tests whether having family members involved in a child's anaesthesia care (called family-centred perioperative care) can lower the chance of emergency delirium — a state of confusion and agitation — after surgery. The trial will include 444 children aged 2 to 6 years having short elective surgeries. Researchers will compare the family-centred approach to standard anaesthesia care to see if it reduces delirium and helps children recover more calmly.
