First seen Jan 22, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study tested a new decision rule to help doctors decide if older adults (65+) who fall need a CT scan to check for brain bleeding. Only about 5% of these patients actually have bleeding, but it can be serious. The goal was to see if the rule is safe and accurate, so fewer people get unnecessary scans. Researchers followed 800 patients for 42 days to see if the rule correctly identified those with and without bleeding.
