New bedside rule could save thousands from unnecessary brain scans after falls

NCT ID NCT07536906

First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026

Summary

This study checks if a quick bedside test can help emergency doctors decide which older adults (65+) need a brain scan after a fall. Falls are common in this age group, and brain bleeds can be serious. The goal is to avoid unnecessary scans while catching dangerous bleeds early. About 4,000 participants will be followed for 30 days to see if the rule works.
