New checklist could spare seniors unneeded ER scans after falls

NCT ID NCT06525727

Summary

This study tested a simple decision rule to help emergency doctors decide when older adults who have fallen need a head CT scan. It involved 800 patients aged 65+ who came to the ER after a fall. The goal was to validate whether this checklist could safely identify patients who are very unlikely to have serious brain bleeding, potentially avoiding unnecessary scans, costs, and radiation exposure.
