Deadly strep infection: what raises the risk of death?

NCT ID NCT07343167

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is looking back at medical records of 400 adults hospitalized with a serious strep blood infection (Streptococcus anginosus group). The goal is to find out which factors are linked to a higher chance of dying within 28 days. By understanding these risk factors, doctors may be able to identify high-risk patients earlier and improve their care.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors identify patients at higher risk of death from this infection and guide better treatment decisions.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It can only find associations, not prove what causes death. Results may not apply to all hospitals or patient groups.
