Tiny screws, big impact: study seeks to improve orthodontic anchors
NCT ID NCT07661277
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study investigates factors that cause infra-zygomatic mini-screws to fail during orthodontic treatment. Thirty adults needing tooth anchorage will receive two different screw types—one with immediate force and one with delayed force—on opposite sides of the mouth. Researchers will track which screws become loose or unstable over three months to identify better placement strategies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
infra-zygomatic orthodontic mini-screws
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help orthodontists choose the best screw size and loading timing to reduce failures during tooth movement.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. Mini-screws can loosen or cause discomfort.
