Mask up for scopes: new study tests if facemasks cut infection risk during endoscopy

NCT ID NCT06006078

First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated Jun 10, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study looked at whether wearing a special facemask during upper endoscopy (a procedure to look inside the stomach) reduces the number of tiny particles released into the air. Researchers measured particles before, during, and after the procedure in 57 adults. Half wore a mask, half did not. The goal was to see if masks can help lower the risk of spreading infections like COVID-19 during these exams.
