Doctors test eye scan as window to the brain during risky heart operations

NCT ID NCT07253922

Summary

This study tested if a simple, non-invasive eye ultrasound could be used to monitor brain pressure in patients undergoing open-heart surgery. Researchers measured the width of the optic nerve sheath in the eye at different times during the procedure to see if it reliably indicated pressure changes inside the skull. The goal was to find a safer way to watch for a serious complication without needing invasive brain monitors.
