Pig collagen eye implant offers hope to avoid corneal transplants

NCT ID NCT04741230

Summary

This study is testing a new, reversible eye implant made from pig collagen for people with severe keratoconus or post-LASIK ectasia, conditions that thin and bulge the cornea. The goal is to see if the implant is safe and can help stabilize the cornea and improve vision for patients who have run out of other treatment options and want to avoid a full corneal transplant. Researchers will monitor 15 patients to check for side effects and see if the implant changes the shape and thickness of the cornea.
