Could your gum health affect your eyes? scientists investigate

NCT ID NCT07480291

Summary

This study aimed to understand if there is a link between gum disease (periodontitis) and a serious inflammatory eye disease called non-infectious uveitis. Researchers compared 25 patients with the eye condition to 27 healthy people, checking their gum health and measuring levels of various inflammation signals in their saliva, blood, and fluid from their gums. The goal was to see if the body's inflammatory response in gum disease might be related to the inflammation seen in the eyes.
