Chemo drug injected into eyes to stop scarring and save sight

NCT ID NCT06425419

Summary

This early-stage trial is testing if a drug called topotecan, injected into the eye during and after surgery, can help prevent a serious complication called proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR). PVR causes scarring that can make retinal detachment surgery fail. The study will compare outcomes in about 50 adults who receive the injections to those who do not, checking for safety and whether it reduces the chance of the retina detaching again.
