Could a multiple sclerosis pill be the answer to slowing blindness?
NCT ID NCT04292080
Summary
This study is testing whether an oral medication called TECFIDERA® (dimethyl fumarate), already used for multiple sclerosis, can slow the progression of geographic atrophy. Geographic atrophy is a form of 'dry' age-related macular degeneration that causes gradual, irreversible vision loss and currently has no approved treatment. Researchers will compare 90 participants taking the medication for 12 months against an untreated group to see if it reduces the growth of damaged areas in the eye.
