New breathing support could make lung treatment safer for preterm infants

NCT ID NCT07271368

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study tests whether a soft, external device that gently pulls on the chest can help preterm babies breathe better during a standard lung treatment called LISA. The treatment delivers surfactant, a substance that helps lungs stay open, to babies with breathing problems. Researchers will check if this approach reduces complications like low oxygen or slow heart rate, and improves oxygen levels after treatment. About 25 preterm infants born at 32 weeks or later will take part.
