New painkiller aims to cut opioid use in children after surgery

Summary

This study tests if a long-lasting painkiller called Exparel can reduce pain and the need for strong narcotic pain pills in children aged 13 and older after knee surgery. About 100 participants will receive either Exparel plus a standard painkiller or the standard painkiller alone during surgery. Their pain and pill use will be tracked for one week after the operation.
