Deeper DNA analysis may unlock better cancer care
NCT ID NCT04614480
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study is testing whether a more detailed genetic analysis of tumors (called 'complex' exome analysis) helps doctors choose better treatments for people with advanced solid tumors compared to a standard genetic analysis. About 8,000 participants will have their tumor and normal DNA analyzed. The goal is to see if the complex analysis leads to treatments that would not have been possible with the simpler test.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Exome analysis (genetic testing of tumor and normal DNA)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a more detailed genetic analysis helps doctors select better, more personalized cancer treatments from the start.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 2 study, so it is still early. The extra genetic information may not actually improve treatment decisions or patient outcomes. The results may not apply to all cancer types.
