First seen Feb 21, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This observational study looks at how a protein called irisin, released during exercise, might protect the brain and lower the risk of confusion after surgery in people 65 and older. Researchers will measure irisin in spinal fluid and track delirium for five days after surgery. The study aims to understand the link between daily activity, irisin levels, and brain health, but does not test any treatment.
