Dance and step your way to better focus: exercise shows promise for ADHD kids

NCT ID NCT07376863

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looked at whether two types of structured exercise—Gince Zumba (rhythm-based aerobic dance) and Square Stepping (patterned steps on a mat)—could improve thinking, movement, and behavior in 51 children with ADHD. Kids were randomly assigned to one of the exercise groups or a control group that did no extra activity. After 8 weeks, researchers measured attention, memory, and motor skills to see which exercise helped most.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

structured exercise programs (Gince Zumba and Square Stepping)

What this could lead to

If these exercises improve attention, memory, and motor skills, they could offer a non-drug way to help children with ADHD function better in daily life.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study (51 children) without a long-term follow-up. The results may not apply to all children with ADHD, and the exercises may not work better than usual activities.
